12 Things You Should Do After Getting Engaged

So, you just got engaged… CONGRATULATIONS! This will be one of the most exciting times of your life! It can also easily become one of the most stressful. However, if you stay organized and take it one task at a time it can be much less overwhelming. Here is a helpful list of some things you should start to do next…

  1. Take a selfie and share your exciting news with the world! Don’t forget that ring shot!
  2. If you haven’t already, start a wedding inspiration board. Whether that is on Pinterest or a journal… Start putting together ideas of what you want your wedding day to look like.  It would be helpful to set aside a weekly planning time with your fiancé in order to get your ideas on the table and organize what you both want to do.
  3. Get your closest friends and family together to CELEBRATE!
  4. Things are about to get real! Before that happens take a break… Some time to soak in what just happened. Spend some alone time with your fiancé and daydream about what your dream wedding would be like.
  5. You will want to create a budget. Discuss with your fiancé what you both are comfortable spending on your wedding day. If other parties are helping foot the bill communicate with them before you start planning too much.
  6. If you plan to hire a wedding planner… Now is the time to find one!
  7. Next you’ll want to pick a date. Until you do this you won’t be able to do much else. However, if you fall in love with a wedding venue be open to changing your date incase they are booked on your first choice.
  8. Research and pick a wedding venue. Venues book up before most all other vendors so you will book this as soon you can. You can schedule tours with venues to see the property and meet the staff.
  9. Think about if you want to have a wedding party and if so… Pick who will stand up with on this very special day!

10.) Get a few people together and go SAY YES TO THE DRESS!! Depending on your personality you may want to have as few people as possible accompany you… Too many opinions can become overwhelming very fast. Pick a few dress shops and make a day of it!

11.) Start researching photographers. After venues, photographers typically book up next. Your photographer will be with more on your wedding day than any other vendor you pick. In your research be sure to pick potential photographers that not only have your desired style but also ones you will be comfortable with.

12.) Decide all of the other types of vendors you plan to use and begin setting up times to chat with the ones you like – florist, caterer, dj/band, videographer, photobooth, baker Be quick to book them to ensure you they are available for your date.

And remember…

Stay true to yourself! You may feel obligated to bend to the wants of other people but stay strong and stay true to what you and your fiancé want your wedding day to be like. While it is completely okay to take the input of others… Just be careful not to allow their wants to overpower your own. This is YOUR wedding day!

Delegate when you can! Your family and friends are excited for you and would love to be able to help you! If there are things you can allow others to accomplish for you then take advantage of it!

Be Flexible and open to things not going as planned. This one is tough. You will have spent months planning this one day and the idea of something going wrong may throw you into a tizzy. However, if you mentally prepare that even all if the planning in the world can’t foresee every obstacle then you will have so much more peace of mind. Be prepared as much as you can be and leave the rest to fate. At the end of the day you will be married and that’s the most important part!
